Lord Montagu waved off 69 VWs from Beaulieu on a Santa Run to deliver Christmas gifts to youngsters at the Piam Brown unit at Southampton General Hospital.
Beaulieu prizes were given to the best dressed drivers and their classic and custom VWs, as they gathered to collect presents for the special centre which treats children and teenagers with cancer and haematological disorders.
As many as 149 adults and 59 children took part in the Santa Run, adding their gifts to those presented by Lord Montagu to event organiser Phil Ashby in front of the giant decorated Christmas tree at Beaulieu.
The best dressed people award was won by Pete and Christine Cousins from Hythe in their eye-catching 1971 VW beach buggy. Lord Montagu presented them with a Beaulieu bear and box of his special chocolates as their prize.
The award for the best dressed vehicle was won by Pawel Govajek, from Blackwater in Surrey, for a floral and Christmas decorated 1978 bay window camper van. A Beaulieu metal sign and box of Lord Montagu chocolates were presented as the prize.
Sunday’s event (Dec 6) was the third Santa Run which has collected and delivered gifts to brighten youngsters’ stays in hospital and rewarded doctors and nurses for their work at the unit.
