Lord Montagu has handed the keys for a brand new Mini Cooper Convertible to the winner of the National Motor Museum Trust 2017 Prize Draw at Beaulieu.
Jim Manley from Epsom, Surrey, and his wife Wendy were presented with the sporty white soft-top outside the Montagu ancestral home of Palace House.
Auto electrician Jim, who bought his winning raffle ticket (number 20808) during a day out visit to Beaulieu, said: “When I got the call to say I had won, I really thought it was a wind-up, and it took a while before the penny dropped! This is absolutely brilliant.
“I have experienced a few health problems this year, so when we came to Beaulieu in September, Wendy and I were having a break in the New Forest to help me recover. I was encouraged to buy a raffle ticket by a very friendly museum guide who said, ‘you never know, you might just win’. I’m so glad that I did and am really looking forward to driving the Mini on sunny summer days.”
The annual prize draw offers the chance to win a car for a £2 ticket and raises money for the National Motor Museum Trust, a charitable organisation which is dedicated to preserving and promoting motoring history.
A money-can’t-buy second prize of a coveted seat in one of the trust’s cars in the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run was won by Geoffrey Fox, from Ilkley in Yorkshire (ticket number 13023). The third prize of a Garmin sat-nav was won by Allen Evans, of Newbury in Berkshire (ticket number 10466).
For a chance to win the 2018 National Motor Museum Trust Prize Draw, tickets are going on sale at £2 for next year’s car which will be a stylish Fiat 500C TwinAir open-top city car. Runners-up prizes include a tour for three around the New Forest in a car from the museum collection, including a pit-stop at the Beaulieu Chocolate Studio for a demonstration and tasty treats, as well as a seat in a trust car in the 2019 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run.
